When people age, brown spots will normally start forming on the skin. The spots are known for a couple of different terms. They include age spots, liver spots, and also sometimes sun spots. Normally, these brown spots on skin pop up because you have exposed your skin to the sun’s rays for too long a period of time without proper protection.
In most of the cases, when you see these spots there is not a risk of cancer or something else that is dangerous to your health. But, some spots can turn out to be harmful if you completely ignore them. So if you have any spots you are not sure about, be sure to see your dermatologist so they can check them out.
If it turn out they are harmless, there are a couple of natural remedies for treating the brown spots on skin. And by treating them, I am talking about reducing their appearance. In most cases, people are not happy about seeing them and want to reduce their appearance as much as possible.
Natural Exfoliates For Brown Spots On Skin
The appearance of these unsightly spots can often be reduced with the help of simple lemon juice. Lemon juice has a lot of natural acids, and these acids will help the skin and skin cells shed quickly. This will in turn produce new skin and hence help to fade those spots.
To apply the lemon juice, just use a finger to rub the juice on the spots a couple of times per day. There should be a nice improvement after trying this for a few weeks. You can use freshly squeezed or bottled juice, though most people will tell you that the freshly squeezed stuff works the best.
Just remember one thing while you do this…your skin will be much more sensitive when you put lemon juice on it. So it will react even worse by being exposed to the sun too much. So make sure you are using sun protection at all times. Of course, you should be doing this anyway!
Apple Cider Vinegar
To help with the natural shedding of the skin cells that have died off, you can also use apple cider vinegar. This particular type of vinegar has a particular pH balance that helps speed up the process of shedding, and also evens out the tone of the skin. Just use a cotton ball and dip it in some of the vinegar, and then simple rub onto the spots. If you are worried about the smell, it’s OK. It will smell bad only for the first few minutes, then it should dissipate. And you shouldn’t have to wash it off either.
Sounds strange right? Well, red onion also has quite a bit of acidity and will also help get rid of these brown spots on skin. To use it is again quite simple. Just cut the onion in half and then squeeze some of the juice from it. Then use your fingers or a cotton ball to apply it to your skin. You could also use a blender to liquefy the onion and use it that way. Once you apply, let it sit on your skin for about 10 minutes or so. Then wash it with some very mild soap. You can do this up to twice a day.
Everyone loves garlic! It’s delicious and healthy. But it’s also great for these spots. Just grab a few cloves of fresh garlic and press it with a garlic press. Then simply do the same as the others…just rub it on the brown spots on skin. Garlic has some wonderful natural enzymes that will help even out the tone of your skin. Again, this can be done twice per day.
If you don’t like to eat yogurt, then you now have an alternative use for that yogurt that has been sitting in your refrigerator. Yogurt is used in many homemade facial masks because it has some great natural healing properties. And it’s no different here. Just use some plain, unflavored yogurt and run in to the age spots twice a day. It’s the lactic acid in the yogurt that does the magical exfoliation!
These anti aging techniques are wonderful because they are healthy and they are safe. While they don’t work as quickly as chemical solutions would for brown spots on skin, you know you won’t have bad reactions to your skin as you might using other methods that aren’t natural or safe.
