Other than the natural aging process, there are many other factors that can cause wrinkles. One of these factors is stress – or simply worrying too much. The question now is: can worrying actually cause the appearance of wrinkles?
This article will attempt to answer this question.
While there is much debate about whether stress causes wrinkles, the link between stress and one’s appearance is irrefutable. When you are experiencing a problem, and then look at yourself in the mirror, it is as if you are staring in another person’s face.
Even science has an explanation ‘how’ stress cause wrinkles. In a 2004 study commissioned by Stoppler, the association between constant worrying and aging prematurely was established. This is because of telomeres that are in our cells. All people have cells and chromosomes, with which telomeres are found – at the end regions.
When our cells split during mitosis, the amount of telomeres decreased. This process will go on as long as our cells are working. When there is inadequate telomere left, the cells are no longer able to divide then the cells die.
With this, an older a person gets, the more the cells divide. However, the telomeres get shorter. According to the researcher, those individuals who constantly worry tend to have telomeres that get shorter faster. Their telomeres get shorter twice as those who are living a stress-free life.
Common sense dictates us that when we are stressed we do outrageous things. The likely reason why an individual develops wrinkles when he or she is worrying too much might have to do with the lifestyle accompanying stress.
When an individual worries, he or she tends to skip meals and becomes sedentary. Also, this individual tends to think too much that he or she was not able to get enough sleep every night. All of these factors add up to the development of wrinkles, affecting that individual’s appearance.
Needless to say, people should make their lives worry-free as much as possible before their worries show up on their faces. Keep diet, exercise and adequate sleep in check even when you are not stressed at all. This can definitely help in keeping you healthy from the inside to the outside.
Going back to our question, the answer is a matter of believing. If you believe that worrying can cause you wrinkles, then try not to worry especially on petty things.
On the other hand, not believing so is not an excuse not to take care of your body emotionally and physically. So, even if you do not believe that stress can cause wrinkle, it still doesn’t hurt to take care of yourself.
