As winter quickly approaches, you may notice your skin and hair starting to dry out. The cold air combined with the harsh winter winds feels as though it’s ripping your skin apart. While there are many expensive beauty items available to protect and cure your skin, you can use inexpensive, all natural ingredients found right in your kitchen.
Three of the below recipes are especially for your face, hair, and lips. There is also a body lotion to use all over. The main ingredients are lemons, olive oil, brown sugar, and honey.
The Four Main Ingredients
Lemon helps even skin tones and is great to use for lightening old and new scars. Olive oil is an amazing moisturizer which has many powerful antioxidants. It’s excellent at protecting the skin against environmental pollutants. Honey is another moisturizer with antioxidant and anti-aging properties as well. Another great fact about honey is that unlike petroleum jelly, it’s not heavy nor will it clog your pores.
Brown sugar is perfect to use as an exfoliate for your skin. Unlike salt scrubs, its grains are small. This leads to less damage against your delicate skin. You’ll want to use brown sugar versus white sugar because it’s softer. Finally, brown sugar is a natural agent to absorb environmental moisture and place that right back into your skin.
All Natural Homemade Lotion
- 1/2 cup almond or olive oil
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- Essential oil for preferred scent
Combine all the ingredients into a large glass jar. Place the jar in a saucepan. Fill the saucepan with enough water, so it covers the contents of the jar (not the jar itself). Warm the jar until the contents melt, and you can stir smoothly. Store it in a Mason jar dispenser or tin storage container. This has a shelf life of approximately six months and does not need to be refrigerated.
Lemon and Honey Exfoliator
- Juice of 4 lemons
- 4 teaspoons of honey
- 4 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 ¼ cup of brown sugar
Combine all the ingredients in a jar. This will be enough to last a month as you only need to apply it a maximum of three times a week. On damp skin, apply a small amount of the mixture to your face. Gently rub it in with your fingers using a circular motion. Rinse well with warm water or use a warm, damp cloth to help remove it.
Honey and Oil Hair Hydration
- 4 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
Heat the oil in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. Add the honey and blend well. While hair is wet, apply the mixture. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the mixture sit for 20 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as normal.
Honey and Sugar Lip Scrub
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 1 drop of honey, olive oil, or coconut oil (just enough to make the sugar stick)
Combine the brown sugar with your choice of honey, olive oil, or coconut oil. Place it into a small container. Place a bit on your finger and rub onto your lips. In a circular motion, rub this in with a toothbrush or mascara brush for one minute. This helps loosen the dead skin. Wipe off the excess with a damp cloth to reveal smooth lips. Use this once or twice a week on chapped lips.
