It seems that every once in a while, a new “super” product becomes all the rage. The latest craze on the health and beauty front calls for the oil from one of the most common tropical fruits – coconut.
Coconut oil has literally hundreds of applications and uses that make it one of the most versatile beauty products on the market today. Available in both solid and liquid form, it can be used in everything from cooking to clearing up acne.
It has been said that beauty is only skin deep. However, true, radiant, natural beauty comes from within —nourishing the inside to make the outside look fabulous.
I am a coconut lover. I love the taste and I am addicted to coconut cream pie. I buy at least 2 coconuts per week, hammer into pieces and leave the meat sitting in the refrigerator covered in water. I grab a piece almost every time I walk by. It calls to me.
Solid Coconut Oil
For those who want the internal benefits of coconut oil without all the work munching, organic solid-form coconut oil is a great choice.
Due to the fat contained within the coconut oil, it helps to boost the metabolism and works to reduce fat around the waistline, the troublesome belly fat.
I have been consuming 1 tbsp of solid-form coconut oil for months first thing in the morning and personally, I have found that I have more energy and also that I have fewer problems with dry skin.
To get rid of dry patches of skin over the elbows and the knees, I prefer to rub in the solid form oil. It has a consistency similar to warm, pliable wax at room temperature, making it more of a thick lotion.
Liquid Coconut Oil
When buying the liquid form of coconut oil, the most natural form is found in organic, extra-virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil.
We know there are alot out there, just try to choose the organic, extra-virgin varieties. This one pictured on the right is one we’ve tried and absolutely love.
Here are 5 ways to incorporate liquid coconut oil into your beauty routine to solve common problems that we all face at one time or another:
Acne and Blemishes:
Coconut oil is anti-bacterial. After cleansing the face, rub about a tablespoon of the oil gently into the skin.
Since the body is tricked into believing that there is enough oil present on the skin, it slows down the production of pore clogging oils.
Bacteria that is sitting on the surface of the skin is neutralized by the coconut oil.
Homemade Skin Scrub:
Combine half a cup of sugar and 4 tablespoons of coconut oil.
It makes the perfect scrub to use on any part of the body to remove calluses and brighten up the skin.
I add about 1/4 cup of coconut oil to the water every time that I take a bath.
It leaves the skin silky soft and dewy looking, smells great, and also eliminates the need for shaving cream.
Lines around the eyes become more pronounced as we age making them look like crow’s feet (thus the name).
The exfoliating and hydrating properties of coconut oil smooth the look of these types of lines. Gently rub a few drops around the eye area before going to bed in the evening.
It happens to everyone. Angry looking red skin that peels and looks very unattractive. Plus it hurts.
As soon as you have spent time in the sun, massage coconut oil into the exposed areas. It will increase the rate of cell regeneration, supply much needed moisture, relieves the pain, and prevents the skin from peeling.
Coconut oil can replace a large number of products that you use every day. Moisturizers, lotions, shaving cream, and eye makeup remover are just a few. Instead of a cluttered drawer full of various products, one little bottle can do almost any job!
Coconut is a versatile and highly potent ingredient that helps a lot in keeping us looking young and beautiful. If you are not yet convinced, check out this video from Dr. Bruce Fife discussing the benefits of consuming coconut oil.
