It seems like everyone gets split ends. For women especially it’s a major headache when it comes to styling your hair and having great length retention.
Although you take great care of your hair weekly, you may still notice breakage and split ends. There are many products on the market, but you know the best way to have healthy hair is the natural way.
Here are four natural ways to say goodbye to split ends.
Reasons Why We Get Split Ends
If you understand why you get split ends, you may be able to prevent them. Split ends are the direct results of using:
- Heat styling products and accessories, such as hot curlers or blow dryers
- Too many chemical treatments, such as perms or hair color
- Pulling your hair with the wrong hair brush
- Excessive use of rubber bands
- Using too many styling products containing alcohol
- Not detangling your hair well before combing
- Using cheap hair products
As your hair ages, it loses its elasticity and ability to hold moisture. This results in brittle hair that breaks and splits easily.
1. Cut Them Off
There really is no way to fix a split end. Once it’s damaged, it’s gone. So get rid of your split ends and start over with healthy hair.
You can get your stylist to cut the ends off, however, if you’re on a budget, just twist small sections of your hair, and your split ends will pop out.
Cut them using a pair of sharp scissors. Pay attention to your hair for any recurrence of split ends about every six weeks.
2. Condition with Natural Ingredients
There are many natural products found in your kitchen that you can condition your hair with. A great hair mask is mixing half a ripe avocado with three teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil.
If you have a lot of hair, just double or triple the recipe. Mix it in a bowl until it’s creamy. This is great to use weekly as you shower. Apply it right after you’ve shampooed your hair.
Place your shower cap on and leave on until your shower is done. Rinse off and you’ll have a split free advantage.
3. Style Less Often
Manipulating your hair too much causes damage. To prevent from needing to clip your ends so much, try wearing more natural styles.
Even reducing the tugging and pulling of your hair by five minutes makes a world of difference.
Pull your hair back gently with a large scrunchie or place soft pillow rollers in your hair and roll loosely for a loose wave effect.
4. Use a Leave-In Conditioner Before Combing
When you do use heat in your hair or comb as it’s tangled, it’s advised to have a great leave-in conditioner in your hair. It’s perfectly fine to use a natural product daily.
Coconut oil or Vitamin E capsules work great as leave in conditioners. They smooth out your hair and leaves an impressive shine. There is no mixing involved and you do not make a mess.
Apply the above tips for healthy, beautiful hair. You’ll notice in a few weeks your split ends are dramatically reduced.
