There is a limited amount of time each day and trying to sneak in exercise seems like asking to pull your own teeth.
However, while you’re working your 9-5, you can actually get in plenty of exercise.
It’s recommended to get at least 30 good minutes of exercise in a day, preferably cardio.
For those who work sedentary jobs, trying to get more in is helpful to keep the blood pumping.
Below are seven tips on how you can exercise at work.
1. Tap Your Toes
This keeps your blood pumping rather than sitting idle all day.
Also, you can set your trashcan up next to your chair.
Swivel your chair around and bring your legs up high enough to tap the top of the edge of the trash can.
2. Master the Stairs
If you have twelve floors to master, just get off a few floors before yours instead.
As it may be a bit boring, be sure to have your MP3 player with you.
Listen to a few motivational recordings or your favorite music. That beats elevator music any day!
3. Volunteer to Make Copies
Copying does not seem like an exciting job duty.
However, it’s a great way to get in a bit of exercise and stretch those leg muscles. During copying, try a few of these exercises while you wait:
- Leg lifts – Stand in place and lift your legs straight in the air or out to the side
- Knee lifts – Stand in place and lift your knees at least to waist level
- Calf raises – With your feet shoulder-width apart, raise your feet and stand on your tippy toes then lower.
4. Don’t Forget Your Arms
Typically, you may use dumbbells to develop your biceps, but at work that’s not necessary.
Using your stapler, curl your arms up as though you were holding weights.
If you’re talking on the phone, this is a great exercise to perform.
If you don’t have one, try using a full water bottle (another great way to up-cycle right)?
5. Hit the Parking Lot
Circle around the cars or bring a co-worker – just make it fun!
You can take a 30-40-minute walk and utilize the rest of the time for a light lunch.
6. Have a Ball at Work
To help strengthen your core, how about sitting on a stability ball?
After doing so for a while, you should be stable enough to type and talk on the phone.
7. Perform Kegels
Kegel exercises can be done right at your desk, in meetings, or going home from work.
These will come in handy for those days you are stuck on a conference call before taking a trip to the restroom beforehand.
Of course, beware that some of these exercises can result in a few odd stares!
However, you may even be admired by others for taking charge of your health at work and eliminating the excuses of not exercising.
