Avoid excessive use of irons, curling irons and hair dryer immediately before going out. Hair is more prone to damaging on the sudden temperature changes. So it is not advisable to go out on the cold air immediately after styling.
Also, make sure you regularly go for a haircut, this way your hair will become healthier and more resistant to breakage.
Also, sleeping on the cotton pillowcase is one of the common reasons of breakage of the hair. Replace it with a silk pillowcase, which will save your hair.
