Castor Oil is often very neglected when it comes to its beauty and health benefits. Most of you know for it as a constipation remedy. But it has much more to offer.
First, let’s find out something about this oil. The oil is derivated from the seeds of the Castor plant (Ricinus communis). Another common name for this plant is the Christi palm or palm of the Christ.
The usage of this oil dates in ancient Egypt in 1550 B.C. when the Egyptians used the oil to treat eyes irritation.
In India, they use castor oil for skin, digestive system and it is prized for its antibacterial properties and is commonly used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine practices.

- Thickens hair and improves the hair growth
If you want your hair to grow faster, all you need is this oil.
Massage slightly warmed up castor oil into your hair and scalp and it will improve the blood circulation to your follicles, promoting faster hair growth. For better effect after massaging the oil into your roots and spreading it all over your hair (up to the ends), make a bun and cover your hair with a cap. Leave the oil on overnight and wash out the next day.
The oil is also very rich source of omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. Therefore it will promote a healthy hair growth and as a result you will have healthier, shinier and thicker hair.
- Treats dandruff
Because of its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, castor oil is an excellent dandruff remedy if you use it regularly.
Mix 1 tablespoon of castor oil with one tablespoon of olive oil and add a juice of half a lemon. Apply the mask on the roots of your hair for about 30 minutes before shampooing and conditioning your hair.

-Dry skin: mix 1/4 of castor oil and 3/4 sesame oil.
-Normal skin: mix 1/4 of castor oil and 3/4 grapeseed oil (or olive oil).
-Oily skin: mix 1/4 of castor oil and 3/4 jojoba oil.
- Heals dry, sun-irritated and acne prone skin
-For dry skin: All you need to do is to mix castor oil with coconut oil (1:1). Apply the mixture on the affected areas and leave for 20-30 minutes. And after just rinse and pat dry.
-For acne prone skin: This oil is a natural remedy for mild acne. And that is because this oil penetrates deep into the skin and has antibacterial properties.
All you need to do is to apply the oil on the affected areas. You can also try to use apple cider vinegar and essential oils like frankincense mixed with a small amount of pure coconut oil.
All of these options reduce redness and swelling of acne blemishes along with scarring and pain.
-For sun-burnt skin: Castors oil’s anti-inflammatory properties reduce pain and redness.
Apply castor oil mixed with coconut oil (in proportion 1:1) to the affected area, or try the same remedy as a natural lip balm to solve chapped or sun-burnt lips.
